So I was spending some time in Google Analytics today, and I noticed just how out of control my photoblog’s bounce rate is getting. Google Analytics defines a “bounce” as a user who only visits a single page on your site. So looking at my bounce rate for November that means that three out of 4 visitors to my site view only a single page…which normally wouldn’t be much to worry about, but if you’re trying to sell images via your site, you’d like that number to be a little lower.
Now looking at a single month’s data could potentially be misleading, so I looked at a few months and my site’s bounce rate is getting worse!
What’s your photoblogs bounce rate?
I am going to come up with some strategies to decrease my bounce rates and will post my progress here.

At the moment, mine boucen rate is 61.85%. Over the last few months, it generally hovers somewhere between 50 and 65. Suprisingly low, actually.
@Heath: Congrats on the lower bounce rate….where is the largest source of traffic?
Hey, thanks! I was wondering what that ‘bounce rate’ was. I’ll have to check this. And I hope you share your strategy or at least something of it…

@Brett My traffic sources are split at around 42% each for referring sites (google reader, twitter, facebook) and search engines and about 15% direct traffic.
I figure people who come via links from other pages and search engines are more likely to have a look around, whereas direct traffic is probably regular visitors who mostly just look at the latest post.
thank god that my site’s only running on two sides using lytebox!
…and that I don’t even try to sell my images :-p
