I am a bookie, no not that kind of bookie, I love to read books. I spend quite a bit of time each day commuting on public transit and if you happen to bump into me on my trip, you’ll most likely find me reading a book (or two).
Recently, I picked up “Crowdsourcing” by Jeff Howe with the intention of reviewing it on my other blog, The Procrastinating Entrepreneur. Fifty pages in and I was quickly realizing that I could easily apply the concepts Jeff was discussing to my passion of photography, namely photoblogs. Jeff talks about how crowdsourcing functions like “an immense talent-finding mechanism” (sound familiar?) The more photoblogs I come across the more amazed I become on the immense talent pool that exists in the world of photography. He also defines a sort of logical progression a person take when participating in a crowd, which I have taken the liberty of massaging with the goal of making it “fit” into the world of photoblogs.
It’s horrible I know, but I am a very visual person, so pictures help me think! Normally, I would leave the drawing to more talented folks, but I was feeling inspired tonight. If you feel my pain and feel like brushing up the image, come join my crowd, I won’t say no!
I am still churning the ideas around in my head (when I manage to put the book down), so keep your eyes open for more on these concepts in the coming days.
Strangely, I received my copy of Seth Godin’s latest book, Triibes, just yesterday and I can already see how Triibes and Crowdsourcing kind of work together. Which reminds me, my copy of Purple Cow is getting very bored down-under (totally not Brendan’s fault!) and really wants to head somewhere new, let me know if you want to read it
