Image of the Week #5

June 23rd, 2008 No Comments

This weeks image is from Austin Mann, I found Austin’s work last week and knew that I needed to profile him on Blog on Photoblogs.

So why did I decide on this image?

  • The wide open space in this image really pulls me into the photograph.  I found myself lingering for quite sometime seeing if there was something else to be found in the grass, I love when an image grabs my attention like this one.
  • The brightest area of this image is the mountain range, and that really drew me deep into the image.  After scanning the grass, I didn’t lose interest at all - the light mountain range really helped.
  • The dark edges of this image kept me looking…if it was on a gallery wall, I would stay here for longer than normal.
  • Finally, I am not sure about how much post-processing Austin did on this image, but the colours pop, and the contrast between sky, land and mountain range is great!

Image of the Week #4

First, I want to extend my apologies to all my readers out there - I seriously fell off the wagon last week with regards to posting on the blog! Thanks for the emails, everything is fine! Real-life got a little hectic and the blog suffered.

Now back to our previously scheduled show. This weeks image comes courtesy of Kathleen over at Durham Township. Here’s why I decided that her image was this weeks image of the week,

  • I did a little storm chasing a few weeks back and this image is what I wanted to capture.
  • The contrast between the sky and the foreground really makes this image pop.
  • The rainbow adds so much to this image
  • As usual the post-processing on Kathleen’s images is top-notch.

Awesome work, make sure that you check out Katherine’s incredible work at Durham Township.

Image of the Week #3

This weeks image is from Sean of TreeSwing.

As soon as I saw this image, I knew that I wanted it to be featured as the image of the week, and here’s why, first, it’s architecturally themed, and as I have mentioned before, I am a sucker for these types of images. I love the constrasting colours and how the picnic table stands out from the grass and the wall.  My eye is drawn immediately to the table and if it attempts to stray the strong horiztonal theme of the image and the verticals on the top of the image force it back to the focal point of the image.  Nice job Sean…

If you’re not familar with Sean’s work, make sure you check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

Image of the Week #2

Roosting CranesWell, I decided to go back to my original first pick :) I know that some of you are thinking - An image from Chromasia? That’s not much of a stretch! I know but when I came across this image I was instantly drawn into the photograph and found myself spending quite a bit of time just admiring it’s detail.

I have been a fan of David’s work for quite sometime now, and he managed to turn me into a bigger fan with his recent architectural series from his trip to Dubai.

Here’s what struck me about this image in particular,

  • Top-notch post-processing: David’s images have always been nicely post-processed, this image continues that trend.
  • The detail: I found myself searching for objects within the image, signs of life in around the construction projects.
  • The sheer magnitude of the image: Just the fact that there are that many construction cranes in a single image really caught my attention.

One aspect of David’s work that has always impressed me is he complete grasp of the art of post-processing in Photoshop. If you want to learn some of David’s techniques, I would suggest you check out the Chromasia Photoshop Tutorials.

Image of the Week #1

Jasmine Star PhotoblogTo be honest, I had another image selected almost from the minute I decided (after taking Kathleen’s advice) that I was going to start an “Image of the Week” posting, but I figured it was just not enough of a stretch for me so I went back and started hunting again.

I recently came across Jasmine’s blog, and was blown away by both her writing style and imagery so I decided that I would select an image of her’s as the first image of the week.

Here’s why I ultimatley chose it,

  • I am a sucker for architectural photography, I just love the patterns and detail that you find in architectural imagery, so I was instantly drawn to this image,
  • The casualness (is this even a word) of the lucky couple really made an impression on me, long gone are the days of stuffy engagement and/or wedding photography.
  • Finally, I am being drawn more and more into the world of portraiture and I find Jasmine’s images inspiring and her post-processing is top-notch!

Look for #2 next Tuesday - maybe I will go back to my original selection, we’ll have to see.
